Like any good safari, your Bar H Bar Ranch hunting experience will be filled with surprises and interesting opportunities in the field.

Our 6 square miles of beautiful and diverse Texas Hill Country is a great combination of open and covered areas.

With no internal fences, animals live on our open range much like their native habitat making the -H- a challenging adventure - your safari in the Texas Hill Country.

Expect the Unexpected Trophy

Planning your successful -H- hunting adventure should begin with allowing yourself flexibility. Enjoyment has been highest for those hunters who visit looking for the best trophy opportunities presented during their time in the field.

In general, we suggest identifying a comfortable budget for your trip and select a few species to be pursued during your stay. You may encounter your trophy 5 minutes from the lodge or after several days in the field - each hunt is unique and exciting.

On rare occasions we have accommodated a returning guest to pursue a specific trophy and nothing else, however, this is not what we recommend for our first time visitors.

While our resident guides invest a great deal of time scouting prior to your arrival, they're not out there tossing ropes and tying critters to trees...

The trophy fees listed above do not include lodging, guide fees, gun rental, or transportation incidentals and are subject to change without notice.  The following costs will be included to arrive at the total cost for your visit to the -H-. Personal or corporate checks upon departure are expected unless other arrangements have been made.

Lodging

Staying with us costs $175 per night, per person (hunters as well as non-hunting guests). This cost includes all food and beverages - including our well stocked bar - which you consume during your visit. Typically a "day" begins around noon on the day of your arrival and ends around noon the day of your departure; generally, hunting at the -H- will involve at least a one night stay - we don't do "day" hunts under normal circumstances.

We encourage our first time clients to plan a trip which begins early afternoon of the first day and ends around lunch on your final day. For a three day visit, this would require two nights of lodging and include meals beginning with appetizers on the first day, ending with a late breakfast on your final day.

Guide Fees

Our guide fees are $250 per day. Typically we use one guide per two hunters - it works very well with Safari style, free-chase hunting when more eyes helps all involved. We can certainly accommodate 1x1, if that is your preference.

Package Price Additional Costs

Our whitetail hunting is offered as an all-inclusive package price.  This all-inclusive price includes the lodging and guide fees for the hunter only. Should you plan on bringing additional guests, each guest will be charged the $175 per day lodging fee mentioned above.

Some Additional Meat

All hunters pursuing a trophy at the -H- may have an opportunity to add some meat to your freezer by harvesting does, or female of the species, and/or other animals the ranch selects.  These affordable options are dependent on the needs of the ranch and may be discussed during the final planning activities of your visit with us.  From a budget perspective, plan for an additional $200-$500, per animal depending on availability. These typically include; whitetail, fallow, axis, blackbuck, and red stag hind. Larger species such as eland and nilgai may also be available on occasion.

Length of Stay

We understand busy schedules and accommodate both short and long hunting adventures. As with any safari, hunters' selectivity can increase with more time in the field.  Shorter stays are most productive when you choose more possibilities from our available animals list, or have a wider range of trophy characteristics for the animals you hunt.

Longer stays typically allow for more selectivity in the animals you choose to harvest.  For instance, if you are pursuing a trophy Sable, our advice would be to have more than a long weekend available for that pursuit.  Sable are elusive and not spotted often, finding one with 40" or longer horns even less often, making a successful stalk can turn the hunting of a trophy Sable into many days in the field to harvest such a magnificent animal.

Recommendations

We want all of our guests to experience a trip of a lifetime and we will work very hard to make that happen. We are hunting mature free range animals over 6 square miles - they didn't get mature by being stupid critters. They can be hard to find and difficult to harvest.

In our experience we find the following to be good rules of thumb in planning your safari at the Bar H Bar Ranch.

Number of Full Days Hunting Possible Species Harvest Expectation
2-4 2-3 1-2 trophy animals
4-6 3-5 2-3
6-10 4-8 4-5
